This page will include various shareware and freeware chess related files. Bear with me, as it'll build up over time--didymus7
Chess Linares--This is a chess diagram font created by didymus7. Freeware. For Windows 9x and NT/2000. This version is labeled 'linaresdiagram' so that it will automatically work with the diagrams in the electronic NOSTalgia articles. On most versions of Win9x, it should install automatically when you download. If not, follow the instructions below.
To install, first download and remember where you downloaded it. Then go to START -> Settings -> Control Panel and double-click Fonts. Select File and then Install new font. Select the folder that you downloaded this font to and click on the file ChessLinares.ttf and select open. Windows will install the font. Or the quick way, simply copy ChessLinares.ttf to your C:\Windows\Fonts folder.
Note that this font does not (at least not yet) include checker characters.
Download ChessLinares.ttf (42kb)
Checkers--This is a checker diagram font created by didymus7. Freeware. For Windows 9x and NT/2000. This version is labeled 'checkers' so that it will automatically work with the diagrams in the electronic NOSTalgia articles. On most versions of Win9x, it should install automatically when you download. If not, follow the instructions above, but for the file Checkers.ttf.
Note: Due to poor art skills, I found it easier to make a whole new font rather than add checkers to the Chess Linares font. There's a gap between things vertically with the font right now. Once I figure out how to fix it, I'll let you know--didymus7
Rob Kruszynski from the Chess Chat list has compiled just about every World Championship Game known to exist (well, he' still working at it...) and put them into this file that he's graciously allowed us to host on this site. The file is pgn, so it's easy to read and import into your favorite chess software. You'll need Winzip to unzip the file. It will unzip to the incredible size of 1.9 Meg, that's a lot of games!
These are collections of games in .pgn format separated by ECO code. A good place to start for data for ChessBase and Bookup.
And there's more to come!!!
